Posterous vs. Tumblr: A Head to Head

A friend of mine just called to let me know that I'm in Mashable's article about Posterous vs. Tumblr. I started using Posterous a year ago now. It's the one place where I post my work and nothing else. I enjoy the email features, tagging, autoposting to other networks, Google Analytics, and more. Overall, I give Posterous an A+ for new feature development and for the willingness to listen to the users who give it life. In this article I happened to be the latest post on Jennifer's Posterous subscription page when she took a screen capture of one of my posts. On purpose or not, Pretty cool. :) Thanks.

With a/c on both I think my Posterous usage speaks for my preference. Email and post to twitter/blog elements are the winner with me. Thought having read this post on @mashable will definately be consider a closer look at Tumblr and increase my feature requests to Posterous.

I have linked Martin.Lindeskog.name to my Posterous site and I use Tumblr as "backup" site for now.

Hey thanks :) I have a Tumblr account that I never use. Might check it out. But maybe not :) I'm happy with Posterous.

Nicholas, I am happy with Posterous. I created a Tumblr account some time ago. Now I use it as a "carbon copy" of my Posterous feed and keep it as a backup example. I will promote Posterous as a great alternative to a regular homepage in my courses on social media and personal branding this autumn - winter.

'm the other way round, I found both the other day but tumblr 1st & I like it. both Posterous & tumblr have hit the nail on the head though as I'm not one
to make complex wordpress/blogger blogs due to my impatience, maybe in time but for now either one or both suit me until such a time when only a "full" blog will do

Tumblr got nothing on Posterous, Posterous is way easier and simpler to use, we just need some themes.

Well Brian your definitely right there, it could do with some themes.

:) Honestly I hope they don't allow for themes. That's what makes it even more different than Tumblr. I know customization is good but who needs another Myspace? Simple is better and more uniform.

You know what, I'm new(ish) to posterous & to blogging in general so I'm gonna have another mess around with the features. I dunno, it must be me.
I'm the last person to "get" twitter etc so maybe thats why Its taking me longer to see the benefits. When evryone first started raging on about facebook, I used to say "whats the point when you can email.." I find myspace too fiddly & slow, yet everyone swears by it for music promotion. I set up an a/c yet I never use it. But I do like the tumblr/posterous ethic of speed/simplicity.

It seems like Posterous is poised to pass Tumblr. I use both/like both, and Posterous allows me to do it all with one interface. I have been calling it my "iFunnel".
