Facebook: Please Update Your Email Address

So, for the past month Facebook has been trying to make me reconfirm my email address. I've done this about 7 times now. I have a custom email address and I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't use the standard email addresses like yourschool.edu, gmail, hotmail, aol, etc. You'd think Facebook would be able to retain this information after 7 times of reconfirming by email. Just one more annoying thing to add to the list. Do you have a custom email address? And when you log into Facebook do you have this issue too?

Update: 05/23/2010: I went ahead and reconfirmed my email one more time for Facebook and it seems to be working now. :)
Update: 06/03/2010: Oh No, it's back...

I used to have that problem, so I just switched to a gmail account. I saw your other post on FB privacy, have you seen this yet?

Ya, I've gotten used to seeing the above image every time I get on Facebook. I'm not changing my email because of their error.

I wonder if it is not the domain, but maybe some stuff you get from FB is going into your spam folder, and maybe FB gets pinged that you are marking them as spam. Just a thought. I have used a custom domain email address for 2+ years on FB and have never seen that message.

I just checked my spam folder, no facebook emails. I've turned off all notifications inside of the facebook options so no emails should be coming to my inbox (maybe that's why?). It might be the domain name, but I'm not sure how that would be creating an error inside of facebook? Thanks for your input.

Same problem here. Custom email address, incessant requests to reconfirm my current email address. I get a similar message on Twitter from time to time.

Twitter is the same, I got the same kind of message where they wanted me to confirm the email ... it didn't work. Had to switch to a gmail address

Hey Nick... I've been getting this a lot lately, too. At least 3 times per week. At first I thought I was having problems with my domain address, but I'm thinking Facebook is flakey.

BTW -- I'm beginning to think the problem might be caused when email to my domain alias is forwarded to my actual MindSpring address... maybe Facebook receives some kind of feedback that the emails are being redirected. Just a theory.

I never saw this message using my custom email address. Still, I coincidentally deleted my FB account today :-) http://blog.zzamboni.org/deleting-my-facebook-account-0

OMG! Is this the Social Media equivalent to Black Friday? The rats are jumping ship! What should we do??? I, for one, am not too concerned. Should I be? Let's panic!

Laurie: I don't think anyone should panic, but just be aware of the implications on your privacy of fb's constant privacy policy changes. Many people think stuff they post on fb is private, when it's far from it. See the
links in my post above for some more context and advice.

Renji: admittedly, fb is a useful site, and there's no other as big or as popular. I'm not saying everyone should leave fb, but rather be mindful of your information and use it responsibly.
